From the HSLDA website, you can view three different videos that were recorded during the recent protest at the Capital building in Edmonton. We want to thank the HSLDA for its tremendous help in organizing the protest which quickly and transparently became about MUCH more than just home schoolers being upset about the new Education Act. Please take the time to view these videos which you can find at http://www.hslda.ca/blog/alberta_rally_videos?year=&month=&page=1.

From the website…

We are pleased to be able to share the video (in 3 parts) from the Freedom in Education Rally which took place this past Monday March 19 on the steps of the Alberta legislature. 2100 people showed up at that rally and struck a massive blow for freedom in Alberta. At the time it was expected that Bill 2 would be passed at third reading on the Wednesday or Thursday of last week. That did not happen which means that if an election is called, Bill 2 will die. Also included below is a video from an information session we held in Edmonton on March 17 to inform people about the dangers of Bill 2.

Julia Parrish, ctvedmonton.ca

A proposed new Education Act could become law later this week – but if the 2000 people who gathered in front of the Legislature Monday have it their way, it won’t go through without a fight.

At issue, the inclusion of “…and the Alberta Human Rights Act” in the legislation – the protestors who gathered Monday want those six words removed.

Organizers said more than 2000 people were present at the noon-hour protest – representing several groups, including religious groups, school boards, trustees, teachers and other concerned parents.

“We [are] simply asking them to remove Section 16 from Bill 2,” Lisa Nawrocki said. “That’s all we’re asking [for], six little words, that’s it.”

Protestors claimed those six words will undermine parents ability to pass on their beliefs to their children.

“We don’t want the Alberta Human Rights Act looking over our shoulder in every conversation with our kids,” Paul Vandenbosch, with the Alberta Home Educations Association said.

He told CTV News he believes the Act should concern all Albertans.

“Religious groups have been the target of Alberta Human Rights Act,” Vandenbosch said. “That weapon could be pointed at anybody, anybody in the future.”

There’s a chance it could become law very soon, it has passed its second reading – and is scheduled for debate.

Education Minister Thomas Lukaszuk addressed the crowd Monday, and attempted to assure demonstrators that he won’t allow any legislation that would undermine their ability to teach their kids moral and religious values.

“We may end up agreeing or disagreeing on the wording of it, but I am confident that your rights will be protected,” Lukaszuk said.

On March 14, an amendment to Bill 2 was passed in the Legislature – providing a preamble that recognizes parents ‘right to choose the religious and ethical traditions in which their children are raised’ and that parents play an important role in their children’s growth – but the protestors were not satisfied with the change.

Plastics Lab Description

Plastics are synthetic polymers. Polymers are large molecules (macromolecules) made by joining together many smaller molecules (monomers). Elastomers have rubber-like elastic properties. In this lab, we will break down a thermoplastic into its monomers by heating it. We will them repolymerize it. We will also prepare a thermoset plastic. If time allows, other demonstrations of the properties of other plastics will be shown.
