Transcripts and the
Detailed Academic Report (DAR)

Transcripts and DARs are similar documents, but they have some important differences in both content and purpose. Alberta Education provides a thorough description of both of these documents at its website , and we’ve highlighted some key points below:

Transcript

  • Only available from Alberta Ed; see above-listed web link. The official Alberta Education transcript of a student’s course credits and marks, which the student earned from Alberta Education, will come only from Alberta Education. Home educating parents may certainly create their own academic transcript for their home educating son or daughter for the purpose of documenting the achievements of the son or daughter from parent-led Home Education. The term, “official transcript”, traditionally refers to the Alberta Education transcript while the term, “home education transcript”, traditionally refers to the parent-created transcript.
  • Will show only the higher mark for a course completion if the student tried more than once to earn course credit for that course
  • For a 30-level diploma course, the transcript will show only the course mark* and its respective number of course credits

*Course mark = (school mark (worth 70%) combined with diploma mark (worth 30%))

DAR

  • Available from the student’s myPass account
  • Will show the result of each effort that the student took to earn credit for a given course
  • For a 30-level diploma course, the DAR will show (1) the school mark, (2) the diploma exam mark, and/or (3) the course mark* and its respective number of course credits.
  • Will show the source of each course credit, such as by teacher-taught/school or by course challenge

*Course mark = (school mark (worth 70%) combined with diploma mark (worth 30%))
