What Is a Home Ed Facilitator?
The home ed facilitator: who, what, where, and why? The home ed facilitator is your consultant, your support person, and is going to be your evaluator of your child’s progress and achievement, many other things all rolled into one. Your facilitator is actually, technically, a an accredited, not accredited, a certified Alberta teacher. We call them a facilitator because we recognize you, the parent, are the teacher; we are the facilitator. So your facilitator is a certified Alberta teacher, and with our program, your facilitator is also a veteran home ed parent. So our facilitators have been where you are, and some of our facilitators are still homeschooling children at home, their own children. So they are they know what you’re going through, they’ve gone through it themselves and may be going through the same thing as you, so they can relate to you. They’re not someone who has no experience with home education, right? So they can offer you ideas, they can suggest resources, they can be someone that just like your consultant, really, and your your support, your cheerleader at times. So all those roles and responsibilities are are found in the facilitator.
Roles and Responsibilities
The main official role of the home ed facilitator is as an evaluator of your son or daughter’s academic progress. Well, not just academic, but progress and achievement, and that progress and achievement is relative to your program plan. So your facilitator is going to be evaluating your son or daughter’s progress in achievement relative to your program plan, and in the next video, we’ll talk about what that evaluation looks like. But just know that here in Alberta, you are assigned a facilitator, and with THEE, and with most good home ed programs, your facilitator is going to be someone who not only supports home education but who is a homeschooler himself or herself. With us, your facilitator will be a contact point for maybe like, I would say, a liaison as well, between you and the office for questions and help, you know, with forms, reimbursement, new policies, new changes, anything that that’s going on. You can always go to your facilitator. You can always call us at the main office as well, but you have a home ed facilitator assigned to you as your support, and that support is throughout the school year, not just at the times of the evaluation. So you’ll be able to call on your facilitator, you know, for the entire school year if you have questions, if you’re looking for ideas or suggestions, or you’re like, “Help, this isn’t working! What would you what would you suggest?” Right? So that facilitator is there to help you. So, yeah, you’ll eventually, obviously eventually, but oftentimes you develop a really good friendship with your facilitator and you look forward to seeing each other at these evaluations. So all those things make up a really good facilitator.
