Homeschool Traditional Homeschool

Can you traditionally homeschool through high school? What about earning the diploma? Do I need a diploma for post-secondary opportunities? We’ll answer these questions and more in this video.

Welcome to video number two in our series on homeschooling through high school. In this video, we’re going to be looking at the option of traditionally homeschooling all the way through grades 10, 11, and 12. You’ve likely been traditionally homeschooling up into this point, so there’s really no need to change anything. This video is probably going to be pretty short because I wouldn’t be telling you anything that you don’t already know. You can continue with whatever method has been working up to this point. It could be Charlotte Mason, could be classical education, could be unschooling, it could be child-centered. It really doesn’t matter. Whatever you have chosen as the parent for your child, you can continue doing that through grades 10, 11, and 12.

Now some will say, “Well, traditional homeschooling will enable your son or daughter to earn the diploma or course credits.” Well, not necessarily. But if even so, if you’re not interested in course credits or the diploma, please know that your son or daughter will still have many opportunities post-secondary for all kinds of things. Many universities, many colleges, many trade programs don’t require a diploma, so there are many ways of pursuing many opportunities after high school that don’t involve and don’t require your student to have a high school diploma or course credits, for that matter. So we’ll be looking at things a homeschool student who is pursuing a no diploma, no course credits option through high school. We’ll be looking at those things that a student can do to bolster his or her application for an opportunity after high school in another video, but I just wanted to go on record as saying that we here at THEE definitely want to support students you have no interest in earning the the diploma or course credits from Alberta Ed. We want to be able to offer our support, our ideas, our suggestions, our encouragement to you as you pursue traditionally homeschooling through high school.
